How My Wife Plays Freedom

My wife has been playing FreedomRPG non-stop the last couple of days. It fills me with joy to see someone I care so much about getting so much enjoyment from something I worked so hard to create.

I like a challenge. When I play, I like to make myself some goal (kill the king, get really strong, etc.) then try to make wise decisions to achieve it. This requires some self-control, because with free-text input you could totally just say (OOC: I have a sniper rifle) and the GM would give you one. Going forward, I need to put some thought into how to best handle that…

She, however, plays differently. She is without a doubt the most voracious reader I have ever met. She has dabbled in writing in the past, but now she’s getting to play out all the stories she’s imagined but never had the time to write.

Yesterday she played 107,000 words of romantasy character drama set across decades in a variety of locations around Earthgarden.

A screenshot from her last game; her character just woke from a 10 year stasis.

My goal in building Earthgarden is to provide a world with rich lore and interesting settings for people to find their own stories. For now the level of depth I can provide is limited by the technology of our time. No matter how much I optimize the RAG engine, there is a hard limit on how much information the LLM can use at any one time. I look forward to context limits increasing and models learning to use more of the information from that context when writing.

Then, I look forward to seeing the stories my wife can create with that.
